Joanne Ferrary’s campaign calls her the winner for NM State Represenative District 37

It was a close race for State Representative District 37 in New Mexico. While the official numbers have not come in, Democrat Joanne Ferrary’s campaign has called her the winner against incumbent Dr. Terry McMillan.

This was the third time Ferrary has run against McMillan. She told ABC-7, third time’s a charm.

“We are really glad that we have won this race,” Ferrary said Tuesday night.

Ferrary told ABC-7 she hopes to focus on early childhood education.

“Definitely to increase the children being ready by the time they get to kindergarten,” Ferrary said. “And also to have teacher evaluations changed so they aren’t dependent on the testing. They’re doing too much on stressing our teachers, and their salaries to be better too.”

ABC-7 also spoke with Dr. Terry McMillan, who commented on his campaign.

“One of the lessons of this race and this year is how much influence outside political activities can influence our local races and I hope voters will learn from that and learn from who’s financing our political activity that causes them to stop and think about our local candidates,” McMillan said.
