Canutillo’s Aaron Moya wins Sweet Play of the Year

CANUTILLO, Texas – Canutillo cannot stop winning.

After posting a perfect 10-0 record in the regular season and defeating Burges in the first round of the postseason, Canutillo can now add Sweet Play of the Year to its list of achievements.

Eagles running back Aaron Moya takes home the honor for his incredible cutback run in week five of the season (click the video above to view the winning play).

Moya helped lead the Eagles to a perfect mark as the only team in El Paso or Las Cruces to make it through the regular season unblemished. Not even the 2014 Canutillo team that made the state semifinals can lay claim to that.

More than 35,000 votes were cast on KVIA.com, but in the end, Moya was the clear winner.

KVIA would like to congratulate all of the candidates for play of the year on their outstanding achievements this season.

Canutillo may have accomplished a lot this season, but they are far from done.

Up next? A date with Abilene Cooper in Midland on Friday.

While many people fondly remember the run the Eagles made two years ago, this team is adding its own chapter to the legacy of Canutillo football.
