Alleged Sinaloa Cartel member arrested in Juarez

Mexico’s Criminal Investigation Agency arrested one of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s most wanted fugitives in Ciudad Juárez last week.

Luis Arellano Romero is wanted on money laundering and engaging in organized criminal activity charges and firearms trafficking.

Mexican officials said a federal court in Texas requested Arellano’s extradition in September of 2014.

El Diario de Juarez reports Arellano was indicted in April 2012 in El Paso’s federal court alongside Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera and Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada.

Court documents state Arellano is one of the “principal operators” of the Sinaloa Cartel in our region, El Diario reports.

El Diario further reports Arellano is linked to the 2009 kidnapping and killing of a Horizon City man.
