Deadly crash in Fabens results in power outage

The El Paso Sheriff’s Office says a deadly crash in Fabens resulted in a power outage.

The crash happened around 2:30 Friday morning on the 17,000 block of Alameda. Only one vehicle was involved.

Sheriff’s deputies identify the victim as 59-year-old Ascension Rodriguez Amaya.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. According the report from deputies, the vehicle was traveling east on Alameda when for an unknown reason the vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence.

Deputies say the vehicle went on to hit a light pole and came to rest in a field.

The crash knocked out power in the Fabens area. At one point around 5 a.m., El Paso Electric said there were nearly 2,000 customers without power.

Power was mostly restored by 6 a.m., with the exception of one home according to the Sheriff’s Office.
