Dog reunited with owner in El Paso after he was stolen in Deming

A dog was reunited with his owner Friday morning after the car he was in was stolen in Deming earlier this week.

“Trooper” was with his owner, Carrie Credur, in Deming, N.M., when she went to grab coffee early Wednesday morning.

“It was very early in the morning, it was cold, and I had the heater and I wanted to keep the heat on to keep the dog warm. I went in to get coffee, and left the car running which gave the person the perfect opportunity to steal the car so it was very unfortunate,” Credur said.

Upon returning, she found both her car and Trooper gone.

“I told the officers, you know I really don’t care about the car, I just really wanted to get the dog back,” Credur said.

Police were able to locate the car…but Trooper was not inside. The family searched local shelters, but didn’t find the dog.

Thursday, Credur says they were told Trooper was dropped off along Hondo Pass in Northeast El Paso. The family drove more than 100 miles away and made several rounds at animals shelters in El Paso, but came out empty-handed.

Friday morning, the dog was dropped off at the Humane Society of El Paso. Staff there remembered the the family looking for the dog and posted on Facebook, hoping to get him back home:

“In an astonishing turn of events, the little dog was dumped in the HSEP parking lot about twenty minutes ago! A car came in, let the dog go, and sped off. We believe the dog that was dumped is the same one the woman was looking for yesterday. Unfortunately, the woman did not leave any contact information, so we have no way of letting her know her baby is at the HSEP.”

Through the power of social media and through the help of the Deming Police Department, Trooper was immediately reunited with his family.

“We were just excited, ecstatic and crying and ready to get here as quickly as we could,” Credur said.

The family tells Abc-7 Trooper was a little afraid but is in good spirits.
