NMSU sweeps WAC Player of the Week honors
New Mexico State is home to the WAC Player of the Week for both men’s and women’s hoops.
Sophomore Brooke Salas claimed the award on the women’s side – the second time she’s been named the conference’s player of the week this season. It’s the third time she’s won the award in her career.
Salas averaged 15 points and seven rebounds in victories over UMKC and Chicago State last week.
On the men’s side, Braxton Huggins lit up UMKC and Chicago State on the road, averaging 29 points over the two contests and guiding the Aggies to a 2-0 start in conference play.
Over the course of those two games, Huggins hit 11 three-pointers en route to the first weekly award of his career.
Huggins, a Bakersfield native, will lead the Aggies into games against CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon this week.
The Aggie men host GCU on Thursday at the Pan American Center. NMSU will then try to get redemption for last year’s WAC tournament loss to CSU Bakersfield on Saturday in another game at the Pan Am Center.
