El Paso Republican Party excited to attend inauguration

Members of the El Paso Republican Party have landed in Washington D.C. and are excited to witness the inauguration of Donald Trump Friday.

Adolpho Telles the El Paso County Republican Party Chairman and Robert Pena, also a member of the El Paso County Republican Party, both flew to Washington, D.C. Wednesday.

“As I come in, at the airport, riding in on the Uber, I talked to the people and the sense of the people in the street is excitement also. They’re excited about the changes that are coming, about the improvements that are coming, and it’s an excitement that I think is all over,” Pena said.

“We’re here to support what our country is doing. We got a president, he’s going to be different without a doubt, but I think this is a tremendous opportunity. We want to make sure that we, our of El Paso participate in that opportunity and we’re here to meet the people that are going to be involved in that, and make them aware that we’re here to help them and it’s a two-way street, we want them to help us also,” Telles said.

Since they arrived, both men have been attending different social events including a luncheon benefiting the Wounded Warriors program. They tell ABC-7 a group of El Pasoans will be attending the inauguration the inauguration parade and the inauguration gala.

“We’re not just here to celebrate. While we are currently here to celebrate this opportunity of having a president willing to take action, we want to make sure that the action he’s willing to take it going to support us in our state, in our county and our city. El Paso is important to us and we want to do whatever we can do to continue opportunities from the federal and state level that will help us in El Paso,” Telles said.

Pena added, he hopes meeting some movers and shakers in D.C. will have an impact on decisions made.

“They have to know what our concerns are in El Paso and there’s nothing better than inviting them to come and see firsthand, how the actions taken in D.C affect us at home,” Pena said.

Telles says considering El Paso has a large number of small businesses, Donald Trump’s presidency will be a good thing for the people of El Paso. He says he looks forward to the next four years.

“This is the first time that we’ve ever had someone that’s going to be our president that has such outstanding business experience. He’s not a politician. He’s used to getting things done. Granted, there’s going to be a learning curve, he’s also put members in his cabinet that have outstanding people that understand the political side. I’m very excited about having an individual that’s got real life experiences, that understands that complications of starting your own business and maintaining your own business,” Telles said.
