Las Cruces residents getting ready for Trump’s inauguration

Less than 24 hours before the presidential inauguration, Las Cruces residents and students are preparing for the big day.

Robert Palacios, chief operator for Bravo Mic Communications, tells ABC-7 he’s flying to Washington D.C. for the first time ever to witness first hand President-elect Donald Trump get sworn in.

“I really think to get a feel of what’s to come, you have to immerse yourself in that,” Palacios said. “And so I really want to go there and just get a feel. Is there going to be protests, supporters. I can’t even explain it and I can’t even think of what it’s going to be like compared to 4 years ago, 8 years ago when Obama was being inaugurated.”

He said he doesn’t have a ticket. Instead, he plans on finding a spot at the national mall where standing room will be available.

He said he bought his plane ticket two weeks ago and plans on staying at a hotel that’s about 20 minutes away.

Some students in the Las Cruces Public School District will be watching the inauguration unfold on T.V. during class on Friday.

Juan Armijo, a social studies teacher at Mayfield High School, says his junior and senior students will be watching and have a discussion afterward.

“I think it’s important because it’s the constitution it’s the way the system works it’s what’s in the constitution and they learn first hand the transfer of power the peaceful transition we have,” Armijo said.
