Hundreds gather in downtown Las Cruces for Women’s March

One day after Donald Trump’s inauguration, demonstrators took to downtown Las Cruces to protest.

It was one of hundreds of marches that took place worldwide

Resident Marty Janssens said she was there to show support for women’s rights.

‘I’m thrilled that all these people are out here today,” Janssens said. “I’m so proud to be a part of it. My daughter is marching in Washington, D.C. So I’m in solidarity with her and her friends.”

Cynthia De Lorenzi moved to Las Cruces from our nation’s capital two years ago. She said she was surprised by how many people took to the streets in Las Cruces.

“I’m really excited because if you look around, it’s not just one issue,” De Lorenzi said. “It’s a lot of people who have a lot of interests who are really concerned about the future of our country. That really was fascinating to me.”

De Lorenzi said after watching the inauguration, she wants the country to unify.

“I think I came to it with a great deal of hope. That the message was we received now was that as one country, we really need to come together,” De Lorenzi said. “We need to listen to everybody. No matter how you voted, it doesn’t matter at this point. And that is we need to come together.”

Over 20 different organizations were represented during the demonstration.

“If you just sit home and do nothing, nothing is going to be done,” Janssens said.
