UPDATE: One person killed, another seriously injured in shooting
El Paso Police said one person was killed and another seriously injured following a shooting Saturday afternoon.
Police said they responded to a call about a shooting shortly before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Yarbrough and Santa Maria Street.
Police said a woman shot a man at a near-by house where he collapsed outside. The man got up and ran off. That’s when police say the woman began chasing the man and car-jacked a women during the chase.
At about the same time police say a patrol car arrived on the scene when the man collapsed on the officer’s car.
The woman got off the car she was driving, holding a gun, and that’s when the officer on the scene confronted the woman:
“The officer engaged her verbally, giving her the commands to drop the gun at that point the female that was armed with a gun, turned the gun on herself and expired at the scene,” said Kiki Carrillo, El Paso Police spokesman.
Police told ABC-7 the man was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The woman who was car-jacked was not hurt.
Police said Yarbrough Drive south of I-10 to Carolina Street will be closed for a few hours while they continue investigating the shooting.
