EPPD: Drunk woman attacks relatives who refused to hand over infant child
Police officers arrested a woman, reportedly drunk, who allegedly slashed two relatives with a knife when they refused to hand over her child.
Police say 22-year-old Jessica Camacho also punched a good Samaritan who tried to help the victims.
Camacho was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a count of Assault and a count of Resisting Arrest.
Police said Camacho arrived at her mother’s home on the 3700 block of Titanic at about 9:40 pm Wednesday to pick up her infant, being cared for by Camacho’s mother.
The mother refused to relinquish custody of the child because Camacho was drunk and had a bottle of liquor in her hand, police said.
Police said an argument quickly escalated into an assault when Camacho’s brother and his girlfriend intervened. Police said the brother and girlfriend suffered knife wounds.
A neighbor, who is a nurse, tried to help the victims, but was allegedly punched in the face by Camacho.
The brother was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of knife wounds on her head, shoulder and arm. The brother’s girlfriend suffered a knife wound to her hand and was also transported to UMC for treatment.
Camacho was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on bonds totaling $91,500.
Police said Camacho’s mugshot will not be available until Friday.
