EPFD: Hikers safe after getting lost in the Franklin Mountains

The El Paso Fire Department says two hikers are safe after getting lost in the Franklin Mountains Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened on the Ron Coleman trail around 4:30 in the afternoon. That’s when firefighters say the hikers called 911 saying they had lost sight of the trail. The fire department’s Combined Search and Rescue team was sent out to find the hikers and was already heading up the mountain when they were told that the lost hikers had been found and were bring bought down by two other hikers.

At that point, the fire department says the ComSAR team waited at the base of the mountain for the hikers to come down. The hikers, identified as men in their 20s, were safely down by 6:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
