Teens suspected in February burglary spree arrested

Police arrested two teenagers suspected of breaking into and burglarizing several businesses in the Telshor area in February.

15-year-old Mathew Guzman and 14-year-old Romero Serena are each charged with six counts of “Non-residential Burglary,” two counts of “Criminal Damage to Property over $1,000,” three counts of Criminal Damage to Property Under $1,000″ and three counts of Larceny.

Investigators learned five adjoining businesses at 755 S. Telshor Boulevard were broken into on Feb. 12, 2017.

Investigators determined property was damaged or stolen from Mother Earth, Tiffany’s Pizza, Elle Gem, Oriental Medicine and Studeio 3 Salon and Spa.

Police also noticed what appeared to be urine and fecal matter in one of the businesses.

Investigators were able to identify Guzman with the help of surveillance footage, police said.

Investigators spoke with Guzman and allegedly learned he and Serena broke into one of the stores on the night of Feb. 12.

Once inside, the teens used a hammer and fire extinguisher to make entry into the adjoining businesses. Investigators also learned the two teens broke into the nearby J.C. Penney store at the Mesilla Valley Mall where they also stole merchandise on the same night.

The juveniles were arrested March 13 and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
