Injured hiker is 4th rescue in less than a month

A 22-year-old man injured himself Saturday afternoon while hiking in the Franklin Mountain State Park.

Just before 2 p.m., the El Paso Fire Department was called out to the Ron Coleman Trail. Officials say the hiker injured himself and was able to call 911. The first unit reached the scene within 10 minutes of the call, but could not see the hiker from the base of the mountain.

The Combined Search and Rescue team was called-in to assist in the effort to find and help the hiker. ComSAR reached the hiker around 3:40 p.m. and began to treat him Once the non-life-threatening injuries were treated, the man was able to slowly descend with the assistance of the ComSAR team. The hiker and the team made it safely down the mountain around 4:30 p.m.

The patient refused to be taken to the hospital. A total of fouir units and 12 personnel from the El Paso fire department, police department and and Texas Parks and Wildlife responded to this incident.

It was the fourth mountain rescue in less than a month.
