El Paso Firefighters respond to a hotel fire in East El Paso

It took a crew of 40 firefighters over two hours to put out a fire at an East El Paso hotel.

It happened just before 9 a.m. at the Ramada Inn located on the 8200 block of Gateway Boulevard East.

Fire officials tell Abc-7 flames were spotted by a receptionist who called 911. Crews were able to contain the fire around 11 a.m.

Fire officials say the fire started because of an electrical shortage in the attic space of the lobby. The fire was contained to the carport and lobby area and no one was injured. Visitors at the hotel were evacuated from their rooms.

A spokesman for the fire department said the estimated damage is about $100,000. It is still unclear what caused the fire.
