Aaron Jones talks about first few days in Green Bay
Aaron Jones has left his hometown of El Paso for the city of Green Bay to take part in rookie orientation and initial practices with the team.
It’s quite a chance for the native El Pasoan, but in an interview with WBAY-TV in Green Bay, Jones says he’s adjusting well so far.
“I like it. I’ve never been to the north, so it’s definitely warmer back in El Paso, but I like it out here,” said Jones, UTEP’s all-time leading rusher.
Jones was selected in the 5th round of the NFL Draft, becoming the first UTEP player selected since 2008.
When asked how he felt about playing in Green Bay alongside Aaron Rodgers, this is what Jones had to say:
“That’s pretty awesome. He’s one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He’s gonna be in the Hall of Fame, so being able to work with him, if I could make his job easier, it’s gonna help the team,” said Jones.
But Jones isn’t only a little bit starstruck by Rodgers, but by is fellow running back, Ty Montgomery.
When I just walked in and saw my nametag up there, I thought that was pretty awesome, and then right next to me I saw ‘Ty Montgomery,’ and I was like, ‘Whoa!'”
Jones was one of three running backs selected by the Packers in the draft along with Jamaal Wiliams out of BYU and Devante Mays from Utah State. The Packers also added Charlotte’s Kalif Phillips to the mix as an undrafted free agent, meaning there will be plenty of competition at the running back position.
But Jones said he’s not worried about the competition yet and has been able to stay relaxed during his first few days with the team.
“I was just anxious to get out there,” he said. “I hadn’t played football in a while, so I was excited to be back out there in new colors, a new helmet and everything.”
