High school playoff baseball and softball recaps
The playoffs in both New Mexico and El Paso for baseball and softball are well underway, and there are plenty of local teams still in the hunt for a state title.
In 5A for El Paso baseball, Bel Air knocked Jefferson out of the playoffs with a 7-6 win. Parkland advances with a win over Andress 4-0, while Eastlake are bi-district champs after eliminating and shutting out Chapin. Socorro topped Midland Lee to advance as well.
In 6A, Americas and El Dorado were both eliminated in the playoffs, while the Montwood Rams are still alive after their 9-1 win over Odessa.
As for Las Cruces baseball playoffs Onate, Las Cruces and Mayfield are eliminated, while Centennial remains in the postseason after their 6-1 victory over Clovis.
For softball, Eastlake and Chapin both won their area round games so they will face each other next weekend in the regional quarterfinal matchup. Coronado is the last team remaining after they beat Mansfield, but both Del Valle and Parkland are eliminated.
