EPPD officer involved in rollover cited for allegedly failing to control speed

Police officers cited one of their own Friday morning.

Officer J. Andrew Morales, on the force for only a single year, wrecked his patrol unit on the 1100 block of Schuster.

It happened shortly before 8 am Friday.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed Morales, the driver and lone occupant of the patrol vehicle, was heading eastbound on Schuster.

Morales lost control of the vehicle, which struck a raised curb and resulted the marked patrol vehicle rolling over, police said.

Officer Morales sustained minor injuries and was transported to Las Palmas Medical Center for treatment.

Police said Morales was issued a citation for “Failure to Control Speed – Causing an Accident.”

No other vehicles or persons were involved in this collision, police said.
