Socorro High student commits suicide, blamed bullying
The family of a Socorro teenager who took his own life said he was bullied at school.
Javier Levario committed suicide May 9, 2017, stating in a note left for his family he could no longer take the bullying at school.
“It can be anybody,” his sister Valerie said. “Unfortunately my brother was that person that didn’t show anything and wanted to end it.”
The Levario family claimed they tried to transfer him out of Socorro on more than one occasion, but said the school wouldn’t let him. ABC-7 reached out to SISD, and they said they couldn’t comment on the specific situation.
“Things about individual students and circumstances, we are unable to speak about,” S.I.S.D. Spokesman Daniel Escobar said. “But for students in general, we ask them to come forward, come forward and speak to us.”
The Levario family is left without one of their siblings, after an event they didn’t see coming.
“I don’t want another child to take their life the same way my brother did, because he felt he had nobody, or felt he didn’t belong in a school,” Valerie said. “I don’t want that to happen to anybody else.”
According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, more than one out of every five students report being bullied.
