Trump responds to report he shared intelligence with Russia
President Donald Trump is defending his sharing of information with Russia via Twitter.
In a statement released on the social media site Tuesday morning, Trump said “As President I wanted to share with Russia (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do, facts pertaining to terrorism and airline flight safety. Humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russia to greatly step up their fight against ISIS & terrorism.”
The Washington Post reported Monday that Trump divulged highly classified “code-word” information that could enable the Russians to trace the source of the intelligence during a meeting he held with Russia’s ambassador and foreign minister inside the oval office. The Trump administration says intelligence sources or methods were never discussed.
