Community Champion: Chapin’s Alyssa Lozoya stars in multiple sports
Chapin’s Alyssa Lozoya was recently named the school’s most outstanding female athlete, and it’s easy to see why.
Lozoya is a big contributor on the school’s softball team, which has advanced to the Sweet 16 in the state playoffs and will try to keep its run going this weekend.
Lozoya came up huge in the team’s last series against Eastlake, breaking game one open with a home run and robbing Eastlake of a key run with a perfect throw from center field to stop a runner who was trying to tag and score.
She’s also a standout volleyball player for the school and has decided she will continue her volleyball career at the next level.
Lozoya signed a letter of intent in the Chapin gym Wednesday afternoon to play at Panola College in Carthage, TX.
Of course, she was joined by members of the softball team at the event.
Though she’s not done yet with her high school sports career, she’s certainly still looking forward to competing at the next level.
“I chose Panola because on my visit I loved the campus and the coaches were amazing. I met a lot of the girls on the team and they welcomed me immediately. And I just felt really comfortable there,” she said.
In the meantime, Lozoya and the Chapin softball team will play one game against Aledo on Friday in Odessa to try to advance to the Elite 8 in Class 5A.
