Music Under the Stars lineup to perform at both Cohen and Chamizal
Organizers announced the line-up for the annual GECU presents Music Under the Stars concert series, but it doesn’t have all El Pasoan’s excited about the news.
This is because the free summer concert series will feature eight performances, but four of them will be held at Cohen Stadium while the remaining four will finish at the Chamizal National Memorial.
Several people took to Facebook to express their distaste with Cohen Stadium. Gilbert Monroy was one of many to sound off on the comment section in the “Music Under the Stars” Facebook page.
“I was excited till I saw Cohen Stadium,” Monroy said. Monroy went on to say, “Will they allow us to take chairs in this year?”
Not to mention Cohen Stadium’s canopies are still damaged badly due to heavy wind storms back in January. But Ryan Lympus, Assistant General Manager with El Paso Live, said they are doing everything they can to help improve the stadium.
“we’ve covered the infield with more grass, so it is pretty much the greenest in El Paso,” Lympus said. “So we are really excited to have it back this year.”
The Music Under the Stars account responded saying, “Chamizal does not allow us to book non-local artists anymore due to size of crowds.”
ABC 7 was told by El Paso Live the larger out of town bands need a larger stage to be able to perform unlike Chamizal, which would not be able to accompany them successfully.
