NMSU basketball loses top 100 recruit
The NMSU men’s basketball team was dealt a huge blow Thursday when four-star recruit L.J. Figueroa backed out of his commitment to the school.
According to the Las Cruces Sun-News, Figueroa recently informed new head coach Chris Jans that he no longer had any interest in playing for the Aggies.
Figueroa, a 6’6″ wing from West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Fla., originally committed to the Aggies in November of 2016. Former Aggies assistant coach Marc Hsu reportedly played a big role in securing the commitment from Figueroa.
However, Hsu and former head coach Paul Weir both left for UNM in April.
Figueroa, rated by multiple sources as a top 100 player in the country, initially chose NMSU over powerhouse programs such as Louisville, Florida, VCU, and Miami last November.
Figueroa has not yet declared where he intends to play.
