Pedestrian killed in hit and run, police searching for driver

A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car Saturday afternoon.

Police the hit-and-run crash killed Javier Acosta, 50 of Chaparral, New Mexico.

Investigators said Acosta was hit from behind by a vehicle as he was walking east on the 700 block of Luna around 3 p.m. Police say the truck immediately drove away from the scene after the crash.

New Mexico State Police are asking for the public’s help to find the driver involved in the hit-and-run.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a blue or black later 1990’s or early 200’s model Dodge extended-cab truck. Police say the truck was hauling scrap metal in the bed of the truck.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call New Mexico State Police at 575-382-2500.
