BREAKING: Police identify border patrol agent stabbed in the eye, stabbing suspect
Detectives with the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit charged the man accused of stabbing a Border Patrol agent in the eye with Criminal Attempted Murder.
Police said Hisaias Justo Lopez, 39, stabbed the off-duty agent, 30-year-old Isaac Morales, in the parking lot of the Union Drafthouse Bar on the 12000 block of Tierra Este.
It happened shortly before 2 am on May 20, 2017.
Morales suffered life threatening injuries after he was stabbed in the eye, police said.
“The victim, his girlfriend and another couple were walking to their cars when, without provocation, the offender initiated a confrontation,” police said in a news release.
Police said Morales identified himself as a Border Patrol Agent, but Lopez still stabbed him several times.
Lopez “ran from the scene and was chased by the victim, his friend and other witnesses,” police said, “While being chased, the offender turned and stabbed the victim in the face.”
Witnesses caught up to Lopez a block away and held him until police arrived.
Agent Morales was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said.
Lopez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $500,000 bond. His mug shot is not being released at this time, police said.
