Former LCPD officer accused of threatening to publish woman’s nude photos

The Las Cruces man who allegedly threatened to publish nude photos of a woman is the same former LCPD officer who was charged with indecent exposure last year.

ABC-7 learned the suspect, 28-year-old William D. Gonzalez, allegedly answered his door naked after getting a pizza delivered to his home back in November.

Gonzalez was put on administrative leave after that happened. He was with the police department three years.

Las Cruces Police said he was arrested on Saturday after allegedly attempting to extort a woman by offering to release explicit photos of her if she didn’t have sex with him.

Investigators said that Gonzalez, over a three-day period, sent more than 100 text messages to the woman and called her 30 times. Police said that when the woman would not respond and Gonzalez allegedly threatened to publicly reveal naked photos of her.

Gonzalez allegedly suggested he would delete the explicit photos and stop interfering with the woman if she agreed to have sex with him.

Authorities said that Gonzalez obtained the photos without consent and without the woman’s knowledge.

He’s charged with extortion, a felony, as well as harassment and voyeurism.

Gonzalez was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center, but was released yesterday.
