Summer camp trains students on techniques of unique sport

Students at the Salle De Long are introduced to the rules and techniques used in fencing at Salle De Long.

Parents are able to enroll their children who are as young as 6 years old, and the coach tells ABC-7 many of the children stick around. Once students start getting more advanced in the sport, they are able to sign up for competitions out of town and can even try qualifying for scholarships.

“This sport challenges the intellect,” Coach Margaret DeLong said. “It makes the students quicker in reaction. It’s not just upper body strength but also the mind.”

Fencing is part of many summer camps available for students.
