71-year-old man with ties to El Paso day care accused of sexually assaulting girl

A man associated with a children’s day care is accused of sexually assaulting a girl, and detectives believe there allegedly could be other victims.

Jose de Jesus Arteaga, 71, is charged aggravated sexual assault of a child. .

According to court documents obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team, Arteaga’s wife works at the Fun and Funny Day Care.

The documents state the alleged victim told investigators when other children were at play and when Arteaga’s wife was not at the business, Arteaga allegedly took the girl into a separate room. On several occasions, Arteaga allegedly stripped the girl of all her clothes and kissed on her mouth and all over her body.

Arteaga was arrested May 29 at the day care center on the 1300 block of Howze Street in Central El Paso. The date of the alleged assault was not disclosed, but it happened some time between August of last year and May of this this year.

The Crimes Against Children unit believes there could be other victims and is asking anyone with information to call (915) 212-0382.

The day care has been licensed since 2002, and can serve up to 12 children ages infant to elementary-school.

It was last inspected May 30, and online records show no violations.
