Fight at 7-11 leads to couple crashing into apartment, police say

Police say a woman was seriously injured and two people are in custody after a fight at a 7-11 led to a car crashing into an apartment unit.

Police said the two suspects, Raul Calvetti, 25; and Amanda Aguirre, 26, were at a 7-11 store near the apartment complex before the crash. Police say Calvetti assaulted Aguirre and three witnesses tried to intervene.

Witnesses David Gordon, 17; Joshua Deardorff, 28; and Charles Wells, 18, told police the suspects turned on them. Aguirre physically assaulted one of the victims before all three ran from the scene to the apartment complex at 5010 Haggerty in Northeast El Paso.

Calvetti and Aguirre then entered a vehicle and attempted to hit the witnesses with the vehicle, police said. As the suspects tried to flee from the scene, they allegedly crashed into an apartment, injuring 19-year-old April Kriegbaum. The woman was inside the apartment when the suspects crashed into it, police said.

After crashing into the apartment, Calvetti and Aguirre fled on foot, but were later caught in a nearby neighborhood.

Kriegbaum, seriously injured, was transported to University Medical Center.

Calvetti, the driver of the vehicle, is being charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Intoxication Assault with Serious Bodily Injury. Aguirre is being charged with Assault.

The suspects have not been booked, no bonds have been set, and their mug shots are not yet available.
