Lucky Whitehead’s name cleared; police admit mistake

In a stunning twist to an already bizarre story, police in Virginia claim they made a mistake in accusing Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead of shoplifting.

Police said the man they arrested provided false information that led them to believe he was Lucky Whitehead.

The Cowboys released Whitehead from the team on Monday after finding out about his shoplifting charge and then learning that he skipped his arraignment.

However, Whitehead and his agent claimed yesterday that it was “a case of mistaken identity.”

Whitehead also said that he was “pretty much being called a liar” by the Cowboys, who weren’t interested in hearing his side of the story. Whitehead said his teammates were the only people in the organization who believed him.

Whitehead had maintained that he was “blindsided” by the allegations and his release from the team saying he had never received a citation or court summons.

He and his agent also stated that Whitehead was still in Dallas approximately ten hours after the incident happened in Virginia.

The Prince William Country Police Department in Virginia issued a statement saying the department “regrets the impact these events had on Mr. Whitehead and his family.”

Whitehead’s agent says that he has already had “three or four teams” reach out to ask about Whitehead.
