Health officials: Man with Zika most likely was infected by mosquito in Texas
State health officials have reported that a man who was previously diagnosed with Zika most likely was infected by a mosquito while in Texas.
The Texas Department of State Health Services and Hidalgo County Health and Human Services said in a report that a Rio Grande Valley man did not travel outside of the country, and that the Zika was probably transmitted by a mosquito in south Texas in the last few months.
However, lab tests show that the man is no longer at risk of spreading the virus.
After conducting thousands of tests on patients with Zika-like symptoms, officials discovered this may be the first time this year that the virus was spread by mosquitos in the state.
Health officials are using this case to remind Texas residents to stay aware of Zika-like symptoms such as: rash, fever, joint pain and eye redness.
