Humane Society Telethon: Meet Evie and Her Puppies

Finding a home can be tough for an abandoned dog – but it’s especially difficult for a pregnant dog. 2-year old Evie, a pit bull, was dropped off at the shelter by her owners. The Humane Society of El Paso normally finds a foster home for pregnant mommies, but her breed made it hard for her to even find a temporary foster home to get through her pregnancy.

That’s where the Humane Society’s neonatal foster nursery came to the rescue. It’ s a special unit for puppies, weaned or still nursing. There, they receive the help they need.

“Evie was given a second chance at a forever home and her babies were given a first chance. These, guys, without our neonatal foster program, would probably not exist right now, ” says a spokeswoman for the Humane Society.
The puppies are spending their days nursing and sleeping now, but soon they’ll be ready to be loved on by their new adoptive families.

“They can grow up to be happy, loved pit bulls and break the stereotype wherever they go. Our vision for them is to be wonderful animal ambassadors for their whole lives and to change people’s minds about pit bulls,”

When Evie is done caring for her babies, she’ll also be looking for a forever home. She is friendly, potty trained, and good on a leash.

The shelter sees a lot of pit bulls come through, and they also see a lot of loving people come through their doors and fall in love. If that could possibly be you, tune in to our Humane Society Telethon this Saturday from 4-11.
