Police charge man allegedly responsible for SWAT standoff near El Dorado High

El Paso Police charged the man allegedly responsible for Monday evening’s SWAT standoff in Far East El Paso with Aggravated Assault.

Police said 18-year-old Felix Beard Jr. got into a fight with 22-year-old Dontavis Shakur Beard inside a home on the 12600 block of Tierra Alzada.

After the fight, Felix Beard Jr locked himself inside a room. When Dontavis Shakur Beard knocked on the door, Felix Beard Jr allegedly fired a round through the door, police said.

The SWAT team was called when the alleged shooter refused to come out of the home, police added.

The standoff led to the closure of Edgemere near El Dorado High School for nearly three hours.

Felix Beard Jr. eventually surrendered to authorities. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for Aggravated Assault under a $25,000 bond.
