Prosecutors present 239 count indictment against Irvin Gonzalez

Wearing a red and white stripped prison jumpsuit, Irvin Gonzalez sat quietly in a jury box Tuesday morning waiting to be called before 243rd district court Judge Luis Aguilar.

Gonzalez, who identifies as a transgender woman, wore his hair long on the left side of his head, short on the right side.

Shortly after she sat down, prosecutors stood before the judge’s bend and handed the judge a stack of paper containing 239 indictments against Gonzalez.

The charges ranged from forgery and fraud to theft and abuse of financial records. Gonzalez plead not guilty to all the charges through a translator.

Gonzalez and her boyfriend, Mario Alberto De Avila, had allegedly stolen mail and money orders belonging to others, including an elderly woman. Gonzalez and De Avila allegedly modified and cashed the money orders.

Gonzalez gained notoriety when she was arrested by Border Patrol agents at the El Paso County Courthouse while filing a protective order against De Avila.

Gonzalez will remain at the El Paso County jail until another hearing is held. Court records state Gonzalez had previously been deported back to Mexico six times.
