Man receives 50-year prison sentence for murder

A man has been sentenced to 50 years for shooting a man to death during a drug deal.

Court records confirm that Alan Rodriguez pleaded guilty to murdering Frank Christopher Hernandez, 30, inside his Northeast El Paso apartment on Sept. 21, 2016.

According to ABC-7 archives, El Paso police said Rodriguez, who was 20 at the time of the shooting, and an unidentified 16-year-old, went to Hernandez’s home on the 4500 block of Lawrence Avenue to buy drugs.

The affidavit obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team stated that Rodriguez told authorities that he and the teen tried to rob Hernandez, and that he shot him with a handgun.

At the crime scene, police found Rodriguez’s cell phone, along with his fingerprints on plastic bags, as well as marijuana.

Rodriguez was initially charged with capital murder, but court documents show that he entered a guilty plea to a murder charge on Aug. 8.
