Las Cruces man Suspected of using knife to threaten girlfriend
A 44-year-old Las Cruces man is suspected of using a knife to threaten his girlfriend during an argument early Wednesday morning.
Kevin James Acree is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of battery against a household member.
Police were dispatched early Wednesday morning to the 1500 block of La Fonda Drive after reports of a disturbance. Officers arrived to learn that Acree had been in a physical confrontation with his girlfriend.
Investigators learned that Acree was not allowed to enter the residence because he was calling his girlfriend names and had been away from home for quite some time. After finally allowing Acree into the apartment, he began complaining about the food he was served.
Acree is accused of pulling out a knife during the argument and threatening his girlfriend with it. He’s also accused to shoving her twice. Acree eventually left the residence and the victim’s nephew went to a neighbor’s home and called 911. Acree was located and detained by police shortly thereafter.
Acree was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
