Carlos Correa may play against Chihuahuas next week
Houston Astros All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa might play against the Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park next week as part of his rehab assignment.
The Triple-A affiliate of Houston, the Fresno Grizzlies, will be coming to El Paso for a four-game series beginning on Monday, Aug. 28.
Correa, who tore a ligament in his left thumb on July 17, is scheduled to still be with Fresno at that time, at least for now.
However, it’s not clear how much he’ll play.
The Astros have already stated Correa will make his first rehab start for Fresno tonight, but will then get the day off on Friday. They have not yet indicated how much playing time Correa will get beyond that.
The Astros did say that they expect Correa to stay with Fresno for at least the next seven days, which means he would in fact be with the team for at least three games at Southwest University Park.
But it’s still possible the rehab stint is cut short.
“We have a program in place that’s mapped out for at least a week,” said Astros manager A.J. Hinch. “Whether that’s shorter or longer, that can be altered by what we see and what he feels and what’s in the best interest of everybody. Right now, we want him to get into a game.”
Four other Astros are expected to make rehab appearances with Fresno over the next few days including All-Star pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. along with relievers Tony Sipp, Will Harris, and Michael Feliz.
