Man involved in early-morning wreck struck and killed while waiting for police to arrive

Police say a man standing by the side of the road following a car wreck was struck and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday morning.

Daniel Torres, 32, and Gabriela Rodriguez, 23, were standing on the road shoulder waiting for police after having been involved in a crash shortly before 6 am.

At that time, Jill Stevens, 39, was driving north on the 12100 block of Gateway in a 2014 Chevrolet Impala.

Police said Stevens swerved to the right shoulder to avoid colliding into a vehicle involved in the previous crash and ended up striking both Rodriguez and Torres with the Impala she was driving.

Rodriguez was not seriously hurt, but Torres died at the scene as a result of his injuries, police said.

The investigation continues, police said, and no charges have been filed.
