Texans confirm they discussed possibly signing Colin Kaepernick

Texans head coach Bill O’Brien confirmed reports Monday that the team has been considering signing quarterback Colin Kaepernick in light of Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury.

“You know, Colin Kaepernick is a good football player,” said O’Brien. “He hasn’t played football in a while. But, you know, these things are discussed daily, and they’ll continue to be discussed.”

The Texans thought they had their quarterback situation figured out until Deshuan Watson tore his ACL at practice last week.

Houston then turned to Tom Savage Sunday against the Colts, but Savage completed only 19 of 44 passes. The Texans also only recorded one offensive touchdown in a 20-14 loss.

Kaepernick recently filed a grievance against the NFL claiming that team owners had sought to keep him from signing with a team “in retaliation for Mr. Kaepernick’s leadership and advocacy for equality and social justice and his bringing awareness to peculiar institutions still undermining racial equality in the United States.”

O’Brien, however, says Kaepernick is just one of several quarterbacks the team has considered signing in recent days.

“Again, these things are discussed basically daily, and it’s not just one guy,” he said.
