LCPD: Woman entered vehicle, burglarized it while elderly man sat in passenger seat
A Las Cruces woman allegedly tried to burglarizing a vehicle Tuesday evening while a 64-year-old man sat in the passenger seat, police said.
Deziree Montes, 24, of the 900 block of W. Amador Avenue, is charged with one count of burglary of a vehicle.
On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, police officers were dispatched to investigate an auto burglary in progress in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at 235 La Posada Lane.
Police learned a 64-year-old man was sitting in the passenger seat of a Lincoln Navigator, waiting for his brother-in-law, who had entered the hotel.
As the man waited in the vehicle, Montes abruptly entered the driver-side door, sat down and exchanged words with the 64-yearold as she allegedly rummaged the vehicle, police said.
Police said the 64-year-old man held on to Montes to prevent her from leaving. Moments later, the man’s brother-in-law approached the vehicle, stood near the driver-side door and also kept Montes from fleeing, police added.
When officers arrived, they found Montes clinching her legs together. Officers later determined Montes was holding a wallet, stolen from the vehicle, between her legs, police said.
Montes was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. She was released Wednesday on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
