Nate Lasyone of Clint wins Sweet Play of the Year
The fans have spoken, and they have voted Nate Lasyone’s touchdown run in a Clint victory over Santa Teresa as the Sweet Play of the Year sponsored by Southwest University.
Lasyone briefly disappeared in the midst of a group of defenders but then somehow broke free for a Clint TD in his winning play. You can click the video above to see the play.
Voters chose Lasyone’s touchdown run over nine other Sweet Play of the Week winners.
The Clint running back takes home the coveted Borderland Blitz football, signed by each play of the week winner from this season.
But he’d also like to take home a bidistrict trophy later this week when the Lions square off against Levelland in the 4A Division One state playoffs . The Lions enter with a record of 8-2, while Levelland is 5-4 on the season.
“You know, we just need to work on focusing on the game and focusing on getting to the next level. We want to win that bidistrict championship, and that’s what our goal is,” said Lasyone.
But the Lions don’t plan on stopping after one postseason victory.
“I think we can go as far as we push each other to go. Our coaching staff prepares us for everything. We’ve just got to work hard and get it done,” he said.
