UTEP’s Matt Willms to miss 2-4 weeks with wrist injury

The UTEP Miners will be without one of their star players for at least the next 2 weeks.

Senior center Matt Willms will be out 2-4 weeks after he fractured his wrist.

The injury happened Sunday during UTEP’s final game against Appalachian State in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach.

Willms is UTEP’s second-leading scorer and top rebounder

He’s averaging 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks this season, shooting 60.5 percent from the field.

The Miners will be short-handed in the front court, with junior forward Paul Thomas and freshman forward Tirus Smith the only scholarship players taller than 6-7.

UTEP’s next game is Saturday on the road against rival NMSU.
