Aaron Jones apologizes to fans and others after report of arrest surfaces

Former UTEP star running back Aaron Jones issued an apology to family, fans, and others Tuesday after reports surfaced he had previously been arrested in Green Bay.

The Packers rookie running back is currently facing multiple charges after an arrest on Oct. 1, according to court records.

A police report obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel states that Wisconsin State Patrol officers pulled over Jones for speeding at 11:37 a.m. on Oct. 1. The officers claimed to have smelled marijuana and observed that Jones had red, blood-shot eyes. Jones, according to the report, admitted that he had smoked marijuana after eating breakfast that day.

He currently has a hearing scheduled on Feb. 1, 2018.

When asked about the incident by reporters Tuesday afternoon, Jones had the following to say:

“I made a mistake, and I’ll take full responsibility for it. And it won’t happen again. I can’t speak on it because it’s an ongoing legal matter.”

Jones also stated that he was upset he had let down those who had supported him the most.

“I owe an apology to my family, teammates, coaches, the fans, and the Packers organization,” he said.

The rookie running back is currently sidelined with a sprained MCL. He has recorded 370 rushing yards this season and is averaging more than five yards per carry to go along with three rushing touchdowns.

Jones was also arrested in February of 2016 on suspicion of DWI while he was still at UTEP. He then entered a pretrial diversion program that allows for charges to be dismissed upon successful completion of the program.
