Detectives: Man served teen Kool-Aid that tasted like alcohol, raped weakened victim

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Las Cruces man accused in two separate sexual abuse allegations, each with a girl under the age of 18.

David Spears, 30, is charged with three counts of criminal sexual penetration, a single count of criminal sexual contact and a single count of battery.

Court documents state Spears allegedly made unwanted sexual advances to a 19-year-old woman in the 6300 block of Doña Ana Road on Nov. 10, 2017.

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old female told detectives she was at Spears’s home about a year ago when Spears allegedly gave her a drink that looked like Kool-Aid and “tasted like alcohol.”

The victim said the drink made her feel dizzy and weak. She told detectives she remembers Spears forcibly having sex with her and that it was not consensual.

Spears was arrested Monday. He is currently being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Center without bond.
