Kansas State’s Dana Dimel named new UTEP head football coach

UTEP President Diana Natalicio Wednesday announced the hiring of Dana Dimel as the new head football coach of the university’s football team.

Dimel, 55, was previously the head coach at the University of Wyoming and the University of Houston.

Dimel most recently served as the offensive coordinator, running backs coach and tight ends coach at his alma mater, Kansas State University, where he has worked since 2009, university officials said in a news release.

“We welcome coach Dimel, his wife Julie, son Winston and daughter Josey to El Paso,” UTEP President Diana Natalicio said. “We look forward to an exciting new era of UTEP Football under his leadership. His prior experience makes him a great fit for UTEP and the El Paso community at this time.”

UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said, “We are very pleased to find a coach with the talent, expertise and experience of Dana Dimel. He has strong ties to the state of Texas. He will immediately impact recruiting.”

Dimel will be introduced during a news conference Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Larry K. Durham Center Hall of Champions.
