UTEP takes down Washington State 76-69

For the first time this season the UTEP Miners are on a winning streak.

The Miners got their second win in a row and their third win this season after beating the Washington State Cougars 76-69.

The Haskins’ Center was loud Saturday night as fans celebrated Star Wars night.

You could say the force was definitely on the side of the Miners.

Washington State, a team out of the Pac 12, came into the game with a 6-3 record.

The Cougars were also riding a 6 game win streak.

Washington State controlled the first half going into halftime with a 42-39 lead.

But the Miners fought back in the second half putting up 37 points while the Cougars put up only 27.

The Cougars got within 3 points with just 15 seconds left to go in the game, but they missed a 3-point shot attempt and the Miners made all their free throws to cement the win.

UTEP’s Keith Frazier led the way in scoring for the Miners putting up 21 points.

Omega Harris followed with 18.

UTEP is now 3-6 on the season.

The Miners will be off the next few days before hosting Incarnate Word University on December 19th.

The win over Washington State was the second win for UTEP interim head coach Phil Johnson.
