Murder Victim’s Sister: My brother left behind an 18-month-old son

The Horizon City man who died after being shot in the face left behind a son, the victim’s sister told ABC-7.

On November 4, 2017, 22-year-old Erik Aragon was shot and found unconscious behind an AT&T store near Horizon Boulevard and Darrington Road. Aragon was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

On Thursday, December 13, 2017, sheriff’s deputies arrested three suspects linked to the murder investigation in Horizon City.

“That’s not the type of people (Erik) usually hangs out with,” the victim’s sister, Keytt Aragon, said. “They are different from him. They are bad people and they are nothing compared to him.”

Erik played football at Horizon High School before graduating in 2013. He was working as a butcher at a local grocery store. Keytt said her brother had planned on going back to school to become a Border Patrol agent or a police officer.

“He was a friendly person and had lots of friends,” Keytt said. “He never had enemies, was never a fighter and was always smiling.”

Keytt said her brother went to McDonald’s with his friend the night of the shooting and had plans to attend a party. “It was around 11 p.m. when I got a call from the cops,” she said. “They kept calling and calling and I was like, ‘Oh no, what’s wrong?”‘

Keytt said the friend who was with Erik told her that Erik received a phone call while at McDonald’s. When the two were leaving, Erik asked to hang around for a while in the parking lot before heading to the party, according to the friend.

The friend told Keytt that a car pulled up behind their vehicle and that’s when Erik hopped out and approached the driver’s side of the car. The friend told Keytt that Erik walked around the car and got in. The car drove off and came back to drop off the unconscious body of Erik, according to the friend.

Officials told the Aragon family that Erik had been shot in the face and that he was not going to live.

“I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t him,” Keytt said. “His face was not the same anymore.”

Erik left behind an 18-month-old son. “I told him ‘You need to wake up and you need to go home. You have a son to take care of,'” Keytt said.

On Wednesday, three men were arrested in connection to Aragon’s death.

Shawn Ezal Ramirez, 21, and Miguel Angel Ontiveros, 22, were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility without bond.

Marcos Damian Porras, 23, was booked into the Doña Ana Detention Facility without bond. Porras is awaiting extradition to Texas.

All three suspects were charged with Capital Murder.

Keytt said nobody knows who the three men are or their connection to her brother. “No one knows them, not his new friends or his old friends,” she said.

Keytt said she wants the death penalty for all three suspects.

“I cry at night when everyone is asleep,” Keytt said. “I had a dream about him and he looked happy, but it’s sad because we didn’t say goodbyes or that we loved him.”
