Fort Bliss soldier stationed in Iraq dies in ‘non-combat related incident’

A Fort Bliss soldier supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq died in a non-combat related incident, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Specialist Avadon A. Chaves, of Turlock, California, died December 20, 2017, military officials said.

The 20-year-old soldier was stationed in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

Chaves was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Bliss, Texas.

Military officials said the soldier’s death remains under investigation.
