Two Chicago teens sentenced to 5 years probation after sexual assault broadcasted on Facebook live

A judge sentenced two Chicago teenage boys to 5 years probation for sexually assaulting a 15 year old girl while streaming it live on Facebook last March. They also must register as sex offenders.

According to National Public Radio, dozens of people watched live online while the girl was sexually assaulted by up to six different males. None of the viewers called police.

The Associated Press reports “Both teens were originally charged with aggravated sexual assault and manufacturing and dissemination of child pornography.” The two boys were found guilty on just child pornography charges in a plea deal last November.

The victim said that the sexual assault “has very traumatically altered my life.”.

She also said, “The worst part of this is being able to Google my name and seeing everything that happened to me”.

According to The Chicago Tribune, the victim’s mother came to them saying that people harassed and made threats to her family.

Cook County Judge Patricia Mendoza said in court to the boys that a lifetime registered as a sex offender has greater repercussions than months in confinement and that “It’s time for you gentlemen to start adjusting to your new life” reports The Chicago Tribune.
