Woman struck in head by falling rock while hiking

A woman is recovering after she was struck in the head by a falling rock while hiking.

It happened around 1P.M. Saturday afternoon near Transmountain and Mammoth Rock. Officials say a 35-year-old woman was hiking when she was struck in the head. She was taken to a local hospital.

Combined search and rescue crews were at the scene and worked to rescue the woman. Officials say Customs and Border Protection airlifted the woman off the mountain with a helicopter.

It’s unclear how severe the woman’s injuries are.
